Allens wins at Australasian Law Awards

Key advisers: John Greig, Kate Towey
Infrastructure & Transport

Allens enjoyed success at last night's Australian Law Awards, sweeping up awards for the firm's work on major Energy, Infrastructure and M&A deals – our work with the NSW Treasury on the 99-year lease of TransGrid and Westconnex Stage 2.

The firm's work on the TransGrid deal won M&A Deal of the Year and Energy & Resources Deal of the Year, before also taking out the Australian Deal of the Year.

Accepting the awards John Greig, Partner Energy, Resources and Infrastructure and Kate Towey, Partner Corporate said it was very rewarding to have such complex, multi-team deals acknowledged by the industry.

'Our 'Poles and Wires' work for the NSW Government has been challenging and high profile.

'Our work has been in several tranches with the privatisation of TransGrid being the first project. Last year we announced that we had completed the $10.258 billion 99-year lease of TransGrid to consortium NSW Electricity Networks. We are well underway with the partial lease of the distribution network, Ausgrid and we have begun work on the third and final phase of work the long-term lease of Endeavour Energy.' John said.

'These projects have involved cross-firm teams with Energy, Infrastructure and M&A skills, as well as calling on the full range of our specialists. We have worked very closely with our client, NSW Treasury, and the other advisers to deliver strong outcomes,' said Kate.

The firm also won the Property, Infrastructure and Projects Deal of the Year for its work on Westconnex Stage 2, led by Phillip Cornwell and Rob Watt, rounding out a night of success for Allens.
