Our Reconciliation Action Mentoring Program (RAMP) has been running in the Brisbane office since 2013.
It provides an opportunity for First Nations law students to be put in touch with a mentor who will be an Allens solicitor or law graduate. RAMP is open to Brisbane based First Nations law students at any stage of their degree.
RAMP is designed to be a flexible program with participating deciding how often and when they want to connect with their mentors. Catch-ups may take the form of an office visit, a coffee, a lunch, or just by telephone or email.
The purposes of mentoring are to give participants:
- experience in the practice of the law from the perspectives of solicitors;
- general guidance and advice concerning a possible career in law;
- encouragement to complete their education and to achieve personal goals; and
- self-confidence in their abilities, and in dealing with experiences and people outside their usual circles.
The program aims to foster genuine connection and friendship between the mentors and mentees.
