2024 saw Allens reach a significant milestone in its reconciliation journey—50 Jawun secondments. As one of our reconciliation partner organisations, our relationship with Jawun allows us to connect our people with Indigenous organisations, working on projects that empower communities, support two-way skills and knowledge sharing and foster cultural understanding.
Our partnership with Jawun, established in 2011, reflects our commitment to investing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities across Australia. Through six-week secondments, our Corporate Services and Practice Support staff contribute their skills and expertise in regions such as inner Sydney, north-east Arnhem Land, and the Goulburn Murray. Our senior lawyers participate in a 12-week program, supporting the communities engaged in the Empowered Communities project. These placements not only support important Indigenous-led community initiatives but also offer our people an invaluable opportunity to develop cultural awareness and build meaningful relationships.
To celebrate this milestone, we are spotlighting the experiences of three secondees whose contributions highlight the impact of the Jawun program. From working with Wyanga Aged Care to embarking on a 12-month adventure in the Kimberley and engaging with community sport in Shepparton, these stories showcase the diversity and depth of our partnership with Jawun.
We encourage you to explore their journeys and learn more about how the Jawun program is creating lasting change.
