Allens has advised Sydney Trains on a series of deals, worth $100 million over five years, to grant the rights to sell and install advertisements throughout train stations and on train carriages throughout Sydney.
The deals, expected to double Sydney Trains' current revenue from outdoor advertising assets to around $20 million a year, will see the rollout of 150 new attention-grabbing digital advertising boards on station platforms, and the installation of graffiti-proof advertising on the interiors and exteriors of train carriages.
The deals were struck with four outdoor advertising operators: Adshel, APN Outdoor, S&J Media and Torchmedia.
The new deals also mean Sydney Trains has secured one of the largest outdoor advertising revenue streams in Australia.
According to Partner Gavin Smith, who led the Allens team on the transactions, this is great news for Sydney commuters.
'The new arrangements will generate significant new income for Sydney Trains,' Mr Smith said.
'The deals were ground-breaking and complex because they involve the introduction of new technology and advertising methods, which will mean a colourful new travelling experience for travellers.'
