Allens has been appointed as the lead legal adviser to the New South Wales Government on the proposed divestment of its electricity network assets by way of 49 per cent long-term leases.
The initial work involves a Scoping Study to determine the best structure for the transaction. NSW Treasurer Andrew Constance says that the long-term lease is expected to unlock $20 billion in infrastructure funding, including $6 billion for regional NSW.
If the Coalition is returned with a mandate, Allens will advise on the implementation of the transaction.
Allens' Government Sector Leader Paul Kenny says:
'We are excited to work again with the NSW Government, this time on such an important project that will enable significant long-term growth and development through the state of New South Wales.'
