Allens has advised Sydney Airport on its new agreement with Qantas covering the airport's Terminal 3.
Under the terms of the deal, Sydney Airport took control over Terminal 3 from Qantas on 1 September 2015. Qantas held leases for the terminal land, first signed in 1987, which were due to expire on 30 June 2019.
The Allens team on the matter was led by partners Julian Donnan, Victoria Holthouse, Nicholas Cowie and Fiona Crosbie.
Julian said the firm was delighted to have been involved in a deal of strategic importance to both companies, in particular, one marked by the close and collaborative engagement of the parties.
'There were a lot of aspects to the deal, including an extensive property focus on third party retail leases within the terminal and the expiry of Qantas' existing terminal site-leases.
'One of the most fascinating aspects of the matter was the insight our client offered us into the complex job of managing such an important piece of infrastructure and addressing the needs of the multiple users of the airport – whether it be airlines, passengers, tenants, government agencies or visitors.'
