Allens has advised leading global solar farm developer X-Elio Australia on its successful application to develop the utility-scale Congupna solar farm near Shepparton, Victoria.

The solar farm was among four solar farms in the Greater Shepparton area called in by the Victorian Minister for Planning and considered by a planning panel.

A decision on the remaining three solar farms, including a further solar farm proposed by X-Elio in Tallygaroopna, remains outstanding pending further strategic work in relation to the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.

The Minister announced that he had approved the Congupna project on 8 October 2018.

The Congupna solar farm represents X-Elio's second major solar farm development in Victoria, having commenced operations in Australia in late 2016.

The solar farm's approval comes amid Victoria's unprecedented investment in renewable energy, and will create 250 jobs and power approximately 22,600 homes.

'We are delighted to have worked with X-Elio to secure approval for this project, and look forward to the Minister's decision on X-Elio's Tallygaroopna proposal,' said planning and environment Partner Jillian Button.

The advice builds on Allens' extensive expertise in renewable energy, with the firm having acted recently on the Beryl Solar Farm, the Manildra Solar Farm, the Cattle Hill Wind Farm, the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm Project, and the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm.
