Allens has advised Alinta Energy on a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the 200MW Solar River Project, located in South Australia. The legal team included Partner, Andrew Mansour; Senior Associate, Angela Lu; and Alinta Energy's Dipesh Jasmat.
When built, the Solar River Project will be a 200MW facility consisting of more than 640,000 solar photovoltaic panels and one of the largest battery storage systems in the Southern hemisphere.
Commenting on the deal, Partner and Power & Utilities Sector Leader, Andrew Mansour, said: 'it is exciting to work with the Alinta team in support of this project and to continue to advise them on other opportunities in the renewables sector.'
The project is expected to create more than 350 regional jobs during the construction phase, should start generating renewable energy in early 2021 and will generate electricity to power the equivalent of 90,000 South Australian homes. The project is also expected to deliver community benefits through local employment, education, sport and arts programs.
The PPA contributes to Alinta Energy achieving its ambitious target to support the development of 1000MW of renewable energy by 2020. The PPA remains subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions including financing.
