Allens has advised WestConnex on the terms and implementation of a power purchase agreement (PPA) entered into between Transurban and CWP Renewables (CWP) that will positively impact a number of WestConnex toll roads.
The deal, led by Transurban, will underpin 80% of the energy required to power a number of toll roads in New South Wales, including the M4 East Motorway, the M5 East Motorway and the WestConnex M8. The PPA, which will commence in 2021, relates to CWP's Sapphire Wind Farm and Bango Wind Farm in New South Wales.
Lead partner, Kate Axup, said the deal builds on the firm's portfolio of corporate PPA work and involved advising WestConnex not only on the terms of the PPA, but also on the implementation of inter-company arrangements to provide it with the benefit of the PPA.
'It has been great to work with the WestConnex team on its first PPA and to see corporate PPAs extend into the Australian transport sector' Kate said.
The Sapphire Wind Farm is a 270 megawatt wind farm located near Glenn Innes in regional NSW. The Bango Wind Farm is a 240 megawatt wind farm development located north of Yass in regional NSW
