Allens advises Sydney councils on landmark renewables offtake

Allens has advised the South Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) in a landmark renewables offtake agreement with three New South Wales solar farms, covering the supply of power to over 300 major council facilities, more than 210,000 streetlights and more than 3,000 small sites managed by 25 councils.

Beginning this year and running until 2026 with an option to extend to 2030, the agreement is one of the largest Australian municipal renewables offtakes. FRV's 56 MW Moree solar farm, AMP's 120 MW Hillston solar farm and Elliott Green Power's 132 MW Nevertire solar farm will provide power to the councils.

Lead partner Andrew Mansour said the deal paves the way for more competitive renewable energy supply agreements for councils.

'This is an innovative, lower risk deal that proves councils can secure competitive pricing and meet their renewable energy targets without having to enter into a long-term agreement,' he said.

Managing Associate Danielle Jones said the deal is another example of the strong market for renewable energy agreements in Australia.

'Renewable off-take agreements continue to be in high demand as Australian organisations look to target net zero emissions using these agreements as one pillar of their green energy procurement strategy.'
