About Sarah Birrell
Sarah is a resources, energy (including oil and gas) and infrastructure specialist. She advises on mining, critical minerals, energy and infrastructure M&A, projects, joint ventures and operational matters, such as commodity supply agreements.
Sarah returned to Allens in April 2020, after spending more than six years leading an inhouse legal team in Santiago, Chile, working on all aspects of development of a gas-to-power project and on the acquisition of gas-fired power plants.
Her experience includes advising:
- NZ Super Fund and TIAA: on the sale of their interests in the EastLink toll road in Victoria;
- Global Infrastructure Partners: on its acquisition from Woodside of a 49% interest in the Pluto LNG Train 2 joint venture, and on its acquisition of an economic interest in TotalEnergies' 27.5% interest in the GLNG Project downstream infrastructure facilities;
- Liontown Resources: on the negotiation of trucked LNG supply arrangements for its Kathleen Valley Lithium Project;
- Viva Energy: on its proposed LNG import terminal project in Geelong, Victoria;
- New Century Resources Limited: on the potential acquisition from Vale of the Goro nickel and cobalt mine in New Caledonia; and
- Energy and Mining clients: on joint venture agreements, mine rehabilitation funding arrangements, tailings storage arrangements, LNG and gas sale and purchase, and gas transportation arrangements.
