About ジュリアン・ベレンホルツ

Julian is a construction lawyer who specialises in the resolution of disputes on major projects. Julian's practice has a particular focus on infrastructure (including road & rail PPPs) and energy disputes (including oil & gas and renewables). He has practised in Australia, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom and has expertise in arbitration (international and domestic), litigation, expert determination and adjudication.

Julian's experience includes:

PPPs, Road & Rail

  • Acting for the principal in an expert determination and resultant ACICA arbitration arising out of a significant road project in Sydney.
  • Advising the principal in relation to claims arising out of a Victorian PPP prison project.
  • Acting for a concessionaire in relation to litigation in the New South Wales Supreme Court arising out of the construction of a road tunnel in New South Wales.
  • Acting for a NSW principal regarding Security of Payment Act claims made by a contractor arising out of a major road project in Sydney.
  • Acting for the purchaser in an IAMA arbitration arising out of the supply of defective locomotives.

Energy & Industrial

  • Acting for the owners of a wind farm in Victoria in relation to disputes arising between it and the EPC/O&M contractor.
  • Advising an oil major in relation to claims arising out of a Victorian gas project involving time, cost, and variation claims, including Security of Payment Act risks.
  • Acting for the owner of an Indonesian industrial process plant in claims arising out of defective work against a multinational construction contractor.
  • Advising a Japanese energy major in relation to claims worth in excess of A$300 million arising from an EPC contract for the construction of an offshore LNG pipeline in Australia.
  • Acting for the owners of a Queensland coal terminal in disputes arising from the construction of the terminal.
  • Acting for a multinational energy major in an LCIA arbitration in respect of a wind farm in the North Sea.
  • Acting for an international energy company in relation to disputes arising out of the construction of its headquarters and associated infrastructure in Papua New Guinea.
  • Advising a Japanese trading house in respect of disputes arising from the construction and operation of a wind farm in Australia.
  • Acting for various Japanese trading houses and heavy industry companies in a number of SIAC, LCIA and ICC international proceedings across the Asian region, typically arising out of EPC contracts for the construction of oil & gas facilities and process plants.
