About Deborah Jackson
Deborah has been a trade mark lawyer since 1998.
Deborah is a specialist in intellectual property, with a particular focus on trade marks. A former diplomat, Deborah has a keen interest in public and private international law, and has contributed on international law, the UN and multilateral trade matters.
Bilingual in English and German, she has also lectured at postgraduate level in trade marks and has been a guest lecturer in Europe. She has contributed to or presented at seminars, including on the Madrid Protocol, trade mark branding, certification trade marks and Commercial Aspects of Intellectual Property.
Her deep experience in intellectual property law includes advising clients on:
- registration of trade marks, including standard, defensive, certification and collective trade marks, shape trade marks and colour marks
- trade mark oppositions
- trade mark removal actions
- advocacy on behalf of clients at trade mark hearings, both ex parte and inter partes
- advice on trade mark infringement

- advice on branding issues and marking
- foreign trade mark filing and protection strategy and programs
- conducting of due diligence for intellectual property
- advice on international law (including jurisdictional) issues.
Deborah has represented a number of Australian, European and United States pharmaceutical, IT and financial and insurance clients, including at trade mark hearings, and has been involved in thousands of cases over the years. She has provided advice to a broad range of clients, including:
