About Llon Riley
Llon is a Managing Associate who specialises in retail financial services regulation, product design and simplification, payment systems and AML/CTF matters. Llon is part of our market-leading funds, super and financial services practice and contributes to our strong team of financial services regulation experts.
Llon has worked closely with Australian banks, financiers and other financial institutions for over 12 years, including on large-scale, multi-branded projects and on internal secondments. He has a unique understanding of financial products, systems, processes and people, which help deliver project outcomes and practical solutions to challenges. Llon works closely with financial institutions helping them with new and emerging areas including design and distribution laws, unfair contracts terms, mandatory breach reporting, electronic mortgages and scams.
Highlights on Llon's experience include:
- Regulated credit - advising domestic and international bank and non-bank lenders on product development and lifecycle, licensing, responsible lending and compliance matters for home loans, credit cards, personal loans and other regulated credit products.
- Buy now pay later – advising lenders on the set up, ongoing management and compliance of BNPL products and associated payment systems and regulatory matters.
- Retail financial service products - advising on product set up, development and lifecycle, licensing and compliance matters for retail banking and financial products and associated non-cash payment facilities.
- Design and distribution laws - advising major and regional Australian banks and other lenders on the implementation of the new design and distribution laws across a range of consumer, retail banking and investment products.
- Consumer protection and unfair contract terms – advising major and regional Australian banks, international banks and domestic and international financiers on unfair contract terms and consumer protection laws for financial services products.
- Industry codes – advising Australian banks on compliance with the Banking Code of Practice and ePayments Code, including updating whole of bank documents suites for code updates.
- Electronic mortgages - advising major and regional Australian banks on the design and set up of electronic mortgage platforms and processes.
- Retail product design and simplification and documentation drafting - complete white page rewrite of banks' business lending and consumer lending documents, including extensive simplification of terms and collateral, products and systems.
