Miranda Cummings
Miranda is a Perth partner who focuses on dispute resolution, advice and investigations in the energy and resources sector, as well as restructuring and insolvency.
It was probably the experiences in debating and mock trials throughout school that really drew me into studying law. I enjoyed being analytical as well as creative (and it may have also played to my competitive nature). Once I began studying law at university, I was attracted to its breadth - there were always new areas to consider.
Disputes are by their nature challenging and demanding, and so part of my role is helping the individuals that I work with – both clients and colleagues – to navigate the variety of decision points and difficulties that arise. The issues that crop up on each different matter can be very diverse and mean there's always something new to be learning.
I also enjoy that my work requires thinking creatively. I get to engage with a wide range of people on finding solutions and strategies that lead towards tangible outcomes.
At the end of the day, I find it really rewarding when, working with the Allens team and the client, we successfully overcome a challenge, whether that be a small step on the road or the ultimate outcome of a case at trial.
