Stephanie Malon
Stephanie is a new partner specialising in superannuation, funds management and financial services law. She is passionate about helping clients achieve meaningful impact in a sector that plays a fundamental role for individuals and society.
My grade three teacher suggested a career in law. But at age eight, I was pretty obsessed with the idea of becoming a pilot - he obviously knew something I didn't!
By the time I finished school, law seemed an obvious choice. I hoped it would give me an opportunity to combine my love of problem solving with the skills to make a real world impact. I moved from Geelong to the 'big smoke' in Melbourne for university, studying economics and Italian alongside law. When I finished uni, I was lucky enough to land a graduate position here at Allens, and I've been with the firm since – enjoying a couple of secondments to clients along the way.
Superannuation, funds management and financial services law is an area that I am very passionate about. It's a great privilege to work with clients and colleagues on matters that have a meaningful impact on individuals and society. Improving financial security has a really important impact on the lives of so many Australians. The work that we do with clients has a broader social impact too. Clients in the superannuation, funds and financial services sector provide an important capital source for assets fundamental to society such as infrastructure – and can positively influence environmental, social and governance change. The opportunity to assist clients with all of these things is incredibly rewarding and a big motivator for me.
Outside of work, I enjoy anything outdoors or creative. I rekindled my love of painting during lockdown and now Melbourne's music scene has kicked back into gear, I'm excited to be back playing violin with my community orchestra.
